XOD is Tod Emel, an audio and visual artist currently based in Saskatoon, originally from Vanderhoof, British Columbia. After moving to Saskatoon and completing his studies in Art & Art History at the University of Saskatchewan, Tod worked as director of local artist-run centre AKA Gallery, facilitating exhibits and eventually creating a festival entitled “Sounds Like…” which debuted in 2011. With the execution of a long time dream of creating an annual large-scale audio art event in Saskatoon behind him, Tod continued to pursue electronic music composition with a feverish intensity, and everything from ambient and experimental works to minimal and tech house bombs could be heard dropping on his Soundcloud as well as his sets at local Pop Quiz club nights. With “Paradox”, Tod formally introduces us to his techno moniker “XOD”, informed by the teachings of forest trance as well urban minimalism, the EP transports us to a dark and mysterious realm that is rare for dance music today. Recently opening for Ceephax Acid Crew and Homesick at the Soundasaurus Festival in Calgary in November, XOD continues to grow and expand into the world of electronic music and shows no sign of quitting his mission of sonic mind expansion!
The drawings used for the cover art are by Halifax-based creative genius Jesse Mitchell, whom you will all be hearing more of in 2014!
